Baseball is known as America's pastime and the people of St. Joseph love to play, and have played, for a long time. The sport was a way to bring the community together, along with a little competition to go with it. The St. Joseph baseball team joined the Great Soo League in 1925 as the Saints. The team won their first championship in 1939. They won 8 more championships after that until 1965 which marked the end of the Great Soo League. Now, called the Joe's, they are a part of the Sauk Valley League.

Hunting and fishing were an invaluable resource for the settlers. Kraemer Lake providing many fish, the forests providing ample amounts of deer, rabbits, and squirrel, and the grassland providing many pheasants. Many families relied on the animals for food and also used the fur from some animals for clothing. Today we don't rely on the these animals as much for food. Hunting and fishing has turned into more of a sport, while providing us the benefit of enjoying the amazing beauty of nature.

The first bowling alley in St. Joseph was installed the church school basement in 1934. The depression had been going on for a few years and people needed an inexpensive form of entertainment which would help the community. Students were hired to be the pin setters. This continued until 1960. The church needed more room and the El Paso was moving locations so a local priest suggested the El Paso add the lanes. They agreed and the lanes were moved. The lanes are still in service, creating memories for another generation.
